Sunu is a traditional Melenke folk rhythm, song and dance of welcome (one example Mamady Keita, Nankama) that comes from the border region between Mali and Guinea. It is played on traditonal feast days and at marriages, baptisms and other similar events.

For more examples of rhythms and music on the Akonting from West Africa and from the slave plantations, and for information on scheduling a performance at your school, church, festival, etc. contact Steve Levitt at www.duelingshoes.com
