The f---cked up things is this song was released in 2003. The last troops left Iraq in 2011 (as far as the press releases tells us) and Afghanistan continues.

God Hag is a treasure said it before he is an artist--I don't care what the hell his politics are!! does Kern River have politics!! I think it insults Hag to reduce him to a politician oh Graceland to the Promised Land!! man what a song!!
-
@GJNCA most people just assume since he has southern roots he is republican.

Hats off to Norm Stevens here also! :)

why politics who cares HAG is a great artist!! he could sing Mary had a little lamb and it would be great. We are more I hope than political creatures
Thank God for HAG he more than Bush Obama whoever He makes America a better place--BTW heard he was sick is he OK now?

fuck you dems you can burn in hell

I second that motion.

@GJNCA : I'm not sure he ever sang what he didn't believe in: it's more that he mellowed with age (and got turned on to pot by Kris K, hehe).... but there has always been a wry self-mocking style about Merle, even this song... you can always read him from any direction. That's one reason he's Merle and no one else will ever be Merle.

@samuelpdog > much more than just America. It's about war generally too. Also about "Someone's missing in Modesto, it's sad about the clues, suddenly the war is over, that's the news." So there's always this loss with a shift in news coverage...

Thanks for posting this video. I never knew they made one for this song. I remember the day the cd came out, my dad, brother, and I wanted to show the Hag some support putting it out on his own label, so we each purchased a copy. The last Merle cd my dad and I ever listened to together.
