Many Anglo Saxons in the Varangian guard following the Norman Conquest of 1066. However, some of those who travelled to Byzantium chose not to serve in the Varangian Guard but to set up new Anglo Saxon colonies on the black sea coast loyal to the Varangian Guard/Byzantine Emperor. See maps of the Black sea by Europa Oretelius 1572 and Battista Agnese 1550 clearly showing 500 years later a city called Londia.
