The symmetrical fingering in the half-whole scale makes for easier recall especially if string skipping is involved. When practicing the scale I suggest playing it on all six strings but when applying it you may only want to use a piece of it. When playing the entire scale a position shift is involved between the fifth and fourth strings. I usually use the fourth through the first string when I'm implementing it into my soloing to side-step the position shift on the fifth and fourth strings. Of course the string-skipping approach is more technically challenging but it also gives the scale an unusual flavor.

  • thats my guitar

  • you never see the guys face?

  • really great lesson!

  • you remind me of that guy from home improvement. You know the one who doesn't show his face behind the fence :P Anyways your guitar lessons are really good you remind me of my guitar teacher

  • You should really show how this would be used in a musical situation, if you want to call this a lesson.

  • GO BEASLEY!!! I learned a lot. Diminished is somethin I want to get more into.

  • Those are 2 Different Scales

Symetric Diminished (1/2 , W) Scale which is played on Dominant Chords because you have the 4 Chord Tones of a Dominant 7th Chord and available Tensions.

    and

The Diminished (W, 1/2) which is played on Diminished Chords because you have the 4 Chord tones of a Diminished Scale plus the available tensions.
