Short answer for you is the lower the angle the black the tat, Think skin in a cross section. on an angle the needle/ink covers more surface area through the layers.

@theaerialarborist the Vaseline helps with removing any extra ink off the skin without wiping away the stencil it works wonders i use it when i tattoo my clients also spray stuff or stencil stuff works good too but i highly would recommended the Vaseline
