Haitis government must rebuild trust to repair nation

Haitian Prime Minister Michèle Pierre-Louis took office in September, succeeding a former prime minister who was ousted amid riots over the countrys food problem, which is chronicled in the signature video Dirt poor Haitians eat cookies made of mud.

Chosen by Haitian President Rene Preval, Pierre-Louis — the countrys second female prime minister — founded the Fondation Connaissance et Liberté (FOKAL), a non-governmental organization that works for economic empowerment.

But she faces enormous challenges in a country with a history of government instability and pervasive political, economic and social upheaval.
In January, Worldfocus correspondent Benno Schmidt interviewed Pierre-Louis. In this extended interview, she discusses how she and the rest of the government can work to overcome Haitians ingrained distrust of political leaders.

@GmanZouk well, but there should be a progress or steps taken to eradicate the corruption. how can you give hundreds of millions to a corrupt government ? maybe the media if it is not state controlled can play a role in curbing corruption. maybe the international media should try, im not sure. Even though she may be sincere i think it is just too tempting once in power not to make the opportunity to make a few millions.

@killintymm There is an upcoming presidential election. Most importantly she said that she would like to change things and take actions but the problem with Haiti seems to be decades of corruption and it is engrained in the political culture.By the way, they kicked her out of office. I studied psychology. Looking at her, she seemed sincere. Reading between the lines, people in power in Haiti are almost impossible to deal with and may not want to see change.That is the vibes that I got from her.

There can never be any trust or closure until those who have committed so many crimes and atrocities are brought to justice. There will not be any investments in Haiti by the Diaspora noires or mulatres nor from the ancient elites until all those corrupt judges & governmenrt officials are removed from office. Its time to clean up the country. We need criminal control units CC to stop the kidnapping, the drugs,child prostitution, and the elimination of those with AIDS from Haitian society

The predominantly black Haitian government after decades of corruption, incompetence, criminality and neglect have caused Haiti to become a failed and mendicant state. No one was fooled by the Lavalas Preval hiding under a new name "Espoir" He cannot deliver just like he predecessor due to incompetence. After all what does a fake agronomist and failed bakery owner or a priest know about running a government? Haittians need to wise-up and elect only those who are "qualified" to govern.
