  • I can understand how some do not accept the fusion genre in the belly dance world. However, the fact of the matter is, any type of dance consistently evolves. Look at ballet and modern dance...the same sort of argument was had at the turn of last century when modern dance evolved out of ballet. Please, in the future, communicate why you do not like something you see and give constructive feedback so there can be an open form of communication...or please keep the negativity to yourself.

  • OK. Here's some communication. Although the ladies in this posting definately have talent , their dancing has nothing to do with belly dance. This is fusion dance, nothing more. Belly dance is done to Middle Eastern/Arabic music, not English Goth. I would have loved to see these talented dancers perform a genuine Belly Dance routine. This routine is so dark and depressing and has nothing to do with the joyful expression of real Bellydance. Please keep fusion where it belongs, not here.

  • Thanks for your feedback. I am curious as to what you mean about this comment

"Please keep fusion where it belongs, not here."

This is my channel...and this peice was never billed as "real bellydance" as you use the term.

  • fuck you Kittikat5, you don't know shit, bitch you're just a fucken hater!!!!!!

  • I am very familiar with bellydance, emotions, etc. However, I do apologize for saying "Yuck". The routine was different, well choreographed and the ladies are talented and lovely. It definately has a place in the dance world. I just wouldn't call it BD. I am allowed to have an opinion. When you post on YouTube prepare yourself for negatives. That's just the way it is. Not everyone is going to go for your stuff.

  • Congratulations! That's wonderful for you all! I belong to a BD troupe that took 1st place in 2 large East Coast competitions last year, plus a Peoples Choice Award, too. I know how it feels to be recognized for your hard work. I will definately look for your troupe performance on TV in June.

  • Bellydance has been so watered down that it's hardly recognizable anymore. It's too bad because it's losing the mystique and beauty. Most BD ME music is joyous and sensuous. There's enough darkness and misery in the world, why dance to it? The routine came in under YouTube bellydance. I didn't type in "fusion". I don't live in CA. I've never heard of the DNA lounge. I google searched it. Looks like quite a place.

  • By "here" I meant the YouTube search bar. I typed in "troupe belly dance" and I that's where I found your routine. When I see the word bellydance, I expect something different. We have a difference of opinion as to fusion dance and belly dance. Oh well.

  • Belly Dance comes from many different parts of the world with many backgrounds ranging from folk dance, to ritual and even prostitution. Belly dance should evoke the emotion that u r representing some of which is not joy that is a stylised thought that it must be joyous and not "real"

  • Thank you for acknowledging our talent...I guess that is why "America's got Talent" saw this and then called and asked us to come to L.A. and audition for them...which we just got back from yesterday...look for us on season #4 in June!

  • The movements are bellydance-based. Also, bellydance has been performed at mainstream fests for years to all sorts of music that isn't purely M.E.- African drums, Bollywood, flamenco, blues... with little fuss from the "old guard."

The routine is dark because it is a dark story. I'm not aware of any rule that states bellydance must be joyous. All M.E. music is certainly not joyous.

I'm also confused by the "keep fusion where it belongs" comment. No fusion on Youtube? At the DNA Lounge?
