A PICC line is a more recent development using a line which is inserted into one of the large veins in the arm (usually near the bend of the elbow) from where it is threaded into the superior vena cava. The initials PICC stand for peripherally inserted central catheter. I had to have one of these for a month when I had lyme disease. It was so long...

  • @lollipopleahh123 Getting it put in isn't really that bad. I had to get one when I was in the hospital for a week due to inflammatory bowel syndrome, which is when your colon or other parts of your digestive system gets inflamed. They numb the area with almost the same stuff as they use when they numb you at the dentist. The worst part is when they inject the local anesthetic. It stings a bit, but nothing too bad. I had mine removed today and I didn't feel a thing. No painkillers or anything!

  • @lollipopleahh123 Lyme Disease is a bacterial infection. It really sucks! I have to get a PICC soon because I have been treating my Lyme for over 10 months and it isn't getting better.

  • No pain at all... just had mine removed today, takes 10 seconds and you can go home. No big deal at all.

    glad i could help. it's really a good feeling getting the damn thing out. my dad has one in at the moment, as he is receiving chemotherapy treatment. he can't wait either. the first shower/bath you take afterwords is wonderful.
