Boonville's Lions Park Aquatic Center opened to the public for the first time on Saturday, May 28, 2011. The more than 9,000 sq. feet swimming facility boasts an interactive play center, lily pad walk, open flume slide, tube slide and much more. Boonville Parks and Recreation department officials had the old pool removed and began construction on the new facility entirely from scratch. "The old pool was located where the parking lot is now," said Gary Nauman, Boonville Parks and Recreation director. Contractors still need to complete construction on a retaining wall near the park to help control rain water. The money used to help build the park came from gaming revenue the city receives each year from the Isle of Capri Casino in town. Park officials say the total project cost will be $3.5 million when it's all complete.
