This POV toy was inspired by the Binary/POV clock by Natetrue on http://cre.ations.net/creation/binarypov-custom-wristwatch which fascinated me very much.
For this project, I have used an ATMEL AT89S52 microcontroller which is based upon the 8052 core.

I have used a column of 8 LEDs for creating the POV effect. The code for this is quite simple.

So here it is, my latest POV toy. Comments are welcome! Please note the POV effect is not that pronounced in the video although in reality it seems good enough. I tried my best with the not-so-high-end digital camera that I had with me :-(

  • I have never used a PIC, but yes any micro with sufficient number of IO pins should work.

I am not sure how many IO pins PIC16F84a has. It is not one of those tiny PICs with 4 or so IO pins, or is it ?

  • Hello¡ Good job. The Natetrue's binary clock has fascinated me too, and i want to make one of these, but i don't have the microcontroller that Nate used. A PIC16F84a can work? thanks for your help.
