their are no tips or techniques given

Spanish have a black front dorasl fin. Kings have a clear front dorsal fin. Forget all the lateral line crap. Both fish have this feature from birth. It is how all game wardens check to see what the fish is. You're welcome.

me, 10 lbs is enough.... it is easy....

@Brocksta1 80 lb braided line is good enough for pretty much any fish (save for blue fin tuna, marlin, etc)

@keatonmerk ^ thats what she said.

I know EXACTLY where you guys are! I went there for my first fishing trip oofshore about a year ago! By that same buoy thing.

Here's a tip- forget the lateral line, look at the front dorsal. Kings have a clear fin, spanish have a black fin. Case closed.

the difference from king/spanish mackeral, is called the lateral line. kings lateral drops a 60 degree angles while a spanish's lateral is at a 30 degree angle. and dusters work better than that setup. Orange Beach AL fishing, the real fishing.
I have 80 pound spider wire on a abu garcia 7000. Is that heavy enough for kings?

@Brocksta1
sure, just make sure you have a wire leader in the 40lb class and plenty of line on the spool...i use 25 lb mono with a bimini twist to double my line near the swivel, this gives me 350 yds of line on my spinning reel...make sure to use light drag.
