New Multimedia Kiosk at Pennsylvania Welcome Center Encourages
Visitors to Turn off the Highway and Explore Lake Erie Grape and Wine Region..."Ride a grape picker," "Smell the grapes," "Tour a winery," and "Taste the goodness" are among the many virtual experiences available from the touchscreen, which sits atop a 55-gallon wine barrel made from Pennsylvania oak. The Pennsylvania Welcome Center, which opened in 2006, is located on I-90 westbound, one-half mile west of the Pennsylvania New York border in North East, Pa. The most spectacular feature of the $5.3 million, 8,500-square-foot facility is its wall-to-wall windows, which look out over vast stretches of vineyards and Lake Erie. According to PennDOT, in 2010 the Welcome Center served a total of 308,365 people making it the third most visited Welcome Center in the state.
