The roots found their way into the tank from FAILED pipe-to-tank seals.

this mass of roots is from the inlet side of the tank, NOTE: you can clearly see the the round hole in the root mass when I pull it free from the inlet pipe hole at the 55 second mark.

The root mass at the outlet side of the tank (bigger than whats on this video) was removed when the tank was pumped out several days ago, and yes, it was every bit as gross as the above video.
