Exciting clip of a Lake Lanier Striped Bass caught while jigging a spoon over water 150 feet deep. I'm using a light action spinning rod with 20 lb test mono and talking to my friend on my cell phone. I had seen a few fish on the screen when I decided to turn on the digital camera to see how well it recorded video when I got a nice "fish on". It's not huge but to get all the action recorded by myself is pretty lucky!

  • This will tend to attract bait fish which will in turn attract Stripers. I go out in the evening once the surface temps get below 75 degrees and the conditions are right and I target lighted docks or other places where bait is hanging out. This past week I was catching big fish where 6 mile ends on the main channel and then up 6 mile a bit. Lots of Stripers are moving up the river there and I expect they'll be close and accessible by you pretty soon.

  • They won't be coming close to your dock till the surface temps drop some more. This past week I was reading 82-83. That's down from 88-90 from just three weeks ago. We're already seeing surface activity and I'm sure the "nite bite" is about to start. I'm thinking if the temps keep dropping live they've been doing, we'll see surface activity up around docks and other shallow areas in the next 3-5 weeks. One thing you can do is to install a light at the end of your dock (by the deepest water).

  • Did you use bait or a lure? If bait, what kind?

  • Lure. When I get over large schools I'll drop jigs, spoons, soft baits - anything I think will match what they're feeding on at that time. I rarely use bait since trolling is easier for me and more productive. I troll to find them and jig with light tackle for fun. This bite is just now starting on Lanier and will continue through September. It's my favorite time of year to fish!

  • sweet vid man. i need sum help i hav a house over in six mile and i hear like thats the spot. i go off my dock at night until about 11 30 and i catch some, but they are not that big. other people at night tell me they catch 15 - 20 pound stripers about 30 yards off my dock. my luck!. got any tips for me??? o ya and i use loive minnows.

  • Hey pwner05, I sent you a message directly since I had a lot of "suggestions" for fishing from your dock. The message was just too big to "post".
