Albanias economy was revolutionized under Hoxhas long rule. Farmland was confiscated from wealthy landowners and gathered into collective farms that eventually enabled Albania to become almost completely self-sufficient in food crops. Industry, which had previously been almost nonexistent, received huge amounts of investment, so that by the 1980s it had grown to contribute more than half of the gross national product. Electricity was brought to every rural district, epidemics of disease were stamped out, and illiteracy became a thing of the past.

@soterioss8787 It's not really scholasticism however when it's only allowed if it is in support of underlying ideologies of the state. Stalin also supported 'scholasticism' , which lead him to purge several rounds of engineers. In fact, owing to the communist antipathy for hereditarian realities of biology, Stalin was convinced once that he should promote seeds of plants that 'evolved' inside one generation, as if Lamarkian - needless to say it lead to a starvation episode.

@RedBannerOfThePeople Cruel is putting it mildly. There really are no good English books on him. There are a lot that are supposedly written by him, most doubt they were since it was typical for dictators like he, Ceausescu, etc to have numerous propaganda pieces written by ghost writers. However, unlike Ceausescu , there has been very little written objectively on him in English ( I would not consider books attributed to him, authored or not as 'objective).
