With the tragic news of Gary Speed, this poem/song takes on a new poignency. Like Richard Cory, Gary had apparently everything to live for.

The ironic thing here is, Paul Simon's poetry is better than E.A.Robinson who authored the original poem.If you're aspiring to be a singer/songwriter Paul Simon is the best, at least at combining music and poetry into a memorable form.

This takes me straight back to July 1978. Coming back on a coach somewhere in Northern France, The Driver put the cassette of this album on and I heard this 3 or 4 times as the hours and miles rolled by. No idea what the other songs were. That was, very possibly the best holiday of my life, We were young and in love. Still in love with the same woman, but now life, and the years have rolled by.
