Cystitis is a common infection which can be caused by bacteria from the nearby skin that can travel up the urethra and grow in your bladder, causing infection and inflammation. For many, living with cystitis can be uncomfortable, embarrassing and at times, extremely painful.
It is a common condition where the lining of the bladder becomes inflamed and makes going to the loo quite painful. Common symptoms include a stinging or burning feeling when passing urine, an urgent and frequent need to go to the loo, and passing small amounts of urine often.
Cystitis usually occurs as the result of an infection and other possible symptoms include blood in the urine, backache, lower abdominal aches and generally feeling unwell. It can ruin sleep and make working uncomfortable.
Although men can suffer with cystitis, it is adult women who are most commonly affected. For some women, cystitis is a rare event, for others it can happen four or five times a year. It affects women of all ages, being more common during pregnancy, post menopause and in those who are sexually active.
There are a number of ways of relieving the pain of cystitis. Drinking several glasses of water a day can help and cranberry juice can also help relieve symptoms. Although antibiotics have traditionally been prescribed to treat the condition, there are now natural products such as D-Mannose available on the market which may be just as effective with none of the side effects.
Dr Wright and Dr Harper give help and advice on beating the condition.
I was told to try a teaspoon of baking soda 3 times with full glass
water but instead i am taking ciproflaxcin 500mg seeing i found negative feedback on baking
soda and and the possibility of not having right ph level to balance alkaline and
vitamin c, I heard of cranberry extract and d-mannose but this person dos not say how
exactly to mix it properly, then i heard people practicing layman's theory on natural cures
do not have all the background knowledge is it okay to change over

I remember when I was 4 when I was diagnosis with Interstitial Cystitis. One of my first memories was the pain that felt like I was being stabbed with a knife with every movement I did. I tried all treatments and none of them worked, the final choice I had was surgery. After surgery, I felt extremely better. It took a couple of years to get use to, but I've made it through. I am now 16 and I feel no pain what so ever. My best advice to anyone is drink LOTS of water. That is the best treatment.

I took antibiotics. They didn't work. They had been prescribed so much and to so many people that the bacteria was resistant. I was later prescribed Trimethoprim and that cleared it up fine.
I think I have it again, but I'm not sure. After realising I might, I drank water constantly for about 3-4 days and it seemed to clear up. But now I display one symptom at a time (over the past two weeks); smelly or cloudy urine, itching, burning sensation, though way milder than before. Any ideas?

I have had it since I was 16 (now 24), it has put me into hospital in 2009 as the infection was so chronic not even anitbiotics could fight it off and it spread up to my kidneys. I have tried long term anti biotics, had an ultra sound and a camera into my bladder and noone can tell me why I get it on a fortnightly basis. I have tried everything, drinking like a camel, urinating before and after sex, wiping front to back and avoiding caffeine and sugars. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP
