Wow. This brought me to tears. Its just beautiful to see a disabled child on a horse. I hope this worked out for her. Hats off to you for trying something new. Where are you located? I have a horse who is so amazing! I teach lessons on him for beginners. I have been really looking into offering him for riding for free, but I dont know if I need special training or not.

We are in Oregon. She goes to Forward Stride and also Thomas Riding Center. I prefer Thomas as it is really near us and beautiful and very committed folks. Forward Stride is also awesome but so far for us!

I'm glad you posted this, Is she still going and has it helped any?
I'm starting a riding center myself here in Florida. If you have any advice as someone that uses this kind of program I would be glad to hear it. I'm looking for information from all sides.
Best Luck!

Oh this one you commented on, it was her first and she screamed. But then in the car all the way home, my nonverbal child kept saying "more". Yes, it helped tons. We used Title V monies for more lessons... now we have to wait for more money. It is so expensive. But she reached higher, talked more... only advice I can give, make it affordable. Get scholarships, grants, whatever! We just don't have $90 a week....

I'm glad to hear it helps, Sorry to hear it's so costly. Is there any insurance that might cover the cost like Medicaid or something?
Thanks for the reply. BEST LUCK!

Too 'rich' for Medicaid... trying for grants.

It looks like you are a really good mom, it sounds like you have more then one disabled child. That can't be easy. Thumbs up to you!
90 a week seems like a lot, is that once a week? I hope you get the grant.
Thanks for the reply. :)

Yes, $90 a week, for one hour. No, just Bonnie is disabled. I have 3 fine sons, ages 21, 20 and 18, then Bonnie who just turned 4. But she is my corner office. I do all I can with her. If you look at the other hippotherapy of her, she does get happy and loves it.
