My wife's grandmother put a sizable bet on Nickel Coin to win at 40:1. She was so excited at the win that she dropped dead from a heart attack in the street whilst rushing to collect her winnings! Such is life.

My Faher owned Nickel Coin when she won, he was 32. I ahve the gold Cup in New Zealand, I think 51 was the last year a gold trophy was presented, it went to crystal? I watch the pathe news every so often and it always brings a lump to my throat. Dad passed on in 1984, cheers Dad!

My father in law started her and show jumped her. he sold her and then she went racing, it gave him a lot of pride through the years, and having watched the race she was a great winner, she was retired to stud but was very unlucky as a brood mare which is a great shame.

what a race nickel coin jumped superbly it looked like she got stopped briefly by a horse bumping into her i think at first canal turn , superb looking mare

Having studied the film of the race from Movietone, Gaumont and Pathe I would offer one change to Brollytom's where they fell guide. Queen of the Dandies was a long last when falling at Valentine's [filmed by Movietone and Gaumont]. Something remounted between fence 1 and 7 but I can't identify who this is or how far they got.
