In 2006, a video surfaced of a U.S. soldier in Iraq taking his frustrations with an HP support policy out on his printer. HP resolved his issue in 2006. And for years, HP has offered overseas active duty U.S. military personnel free phone support for consumer products, even if they are out of warranty.

  • This is a far more mature response than putting up a picture of the soldier and throwing printers at it.

  • Why should any company be expected to support old out of Warranty hardware for ANYONE?

  • How long was the soldier on hold? DId he get routed to tech support in India?

  • Actually, I'm impressed with HP's response. I have owned an HP desktop that lasted years, two HP laptops that are still up and running (one of them is 8 years old), and I just bought a wireless printer this past weekend that I'm in love with. I'm glad to hear they resolved the problem; otherwise I'd have had to make some changes. Our troops deserve our support.

  • I think this is a great response... This video in response to the original complaint, AND HP's response 4 years ago. As for HP products, I have an HP LaserJet 4 Plus out of warranty for about 15 years that hums away like a champ. I fear the day I can't get toner for it, as it's the single longest lasting piece of office tech I own and still going strong!

  • @Wrassle lol cause if a soldier goes to iraq for a few months to a year, the warrenty could be expired by the time he/she gets back lol i mean i dont think they can take their laptops with them...

  • @MicJefGra -- I come from a military family. In fact my youngest brother just returned from a tour in Afghanistan on Tuesday.

This tantrum has nothing to do with "supporting troops". it has to do with supporting OLD OUTDATED OUT OF WARRANTY CONSUMER GRADE Hardware in an INDUSTRIAL setting. This isn't HP's issue. it is your Governments issue, for not providing the troops with the proper tools for the job. This printer cost $169 at Best Buy. Hardly Military Grade.

  • @Wrassle way to support our troops. you should be proud of yourself

  • Kudos to you HP. I'm glad this issue is resolved and you're now being proactive. Every company has it's hickups and I'm glad to see you're learning and growing. I was looking at getting a netbook soon but wasn't considering HP. I am now.

  • @60knightsix That's a good question! I think they should replace it for free!
