Marty honed his vocal and guitar skills in the Solomon Islands during WW2, and ultimately he became one of country and western's brightest stars. Alhough "Devil Woman" never became the mega-hit that his "El Paso" was in late 1959, it still made the Top 20 pop charts in August of '62.

  • This can't be country music ... I really really don't like country music. This sounds good!

  • @Davynn28 There are many, many songs recorded by country artists which crossed over onto the pop charts, this being one among them. Some country artists, Brenda Lee being one, crossed over with almost every hit she had. This seemed to occur a lot between 1956 and 1965.

  • @Nocaro 1956 to '65 is before my time but I take your point. I found this song by accident and was very pleased by the actual superior [quality] of Mr. Robbins singing voice! Not what I'm personally used to associating with country music - no offense intended to anyone.

  • @Davynn28 LOL, no offense taken for sure! One of the purposes of my channel is to air a lot of music which unfortunately an entire generation of people (usually under the age of 40), have never heard before simply because much of it is not programmed any longer on the radio and other media. And you certainly can't like anything you have never heard before, therein lies the rationale for my YouTube Channel.

  • This was a big hit when I was in the army ('65-'68) and I always liked it. Marty Robbins was a great performer and did a lot of good stuff. I can't think of a single country singer today who is his equal.

  • what a talent and so greatly missed

  • he sones like EVILS

  • @Nocaro This song goes straight through my heart and I listen with my heart. My name is...Mary. No one can sing like Marty Robbins. We are all blessed to have had him and he is sorely missed.

  • @MrGeokal Not to mention, music back then wasn't all Gold material. A LOT SUCKED. The thing is though, nobody sells or downloads the terrible songs from that time, so all we hear are the good ones. So we think that all the music back then was great. But i'll tell you, 9 out of 10 times, a new song wasn't that "perfect" as you are making it out to be.

So just be happy you live now so that you can enjoy all of the GOOD songs from past generations. You aren't "cursed"

  • @MrGeokal not to bright, eh?

have you ever listened to modern music that isn't just pop, and rap? there are great bands out there that. Devotchka, The National, etc.

    here, type Devotchka "something stupid."

that's a good song. If you only look at one or two genres to determine modern music, then you sir will miss out on some great ones of this generation.

  • @40warhawkp or hank williams?

  • @40warhawkp johnny cash?
