The life in pictures of His Imperial Majesty the Showa Emperor, better known in the west as Emperor Hirohito of Japan. He reigned for longer than any other modern Japanese monarch, serving first as regent for his father the Taisho Emperor before officially becoming the 124th Emperor of Japan in 1926. He married Empress Kojun in 1924 and had 7 children. He reigned over Japan during a time of several emergencies, national disasters and coups but always displayed steady leadership. He reigned during the Second Sino-Japanese War and World War II which saw Japanese victories throughout the Far East. Following the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki he announced the surrender of Japan. US forces allowed him to remain as Emperor but stripped him of all but a ceremonial and honorary position, and insisted he renounce his divinity. He reigned over the rebuilding of Japan and the transition to liberal democracy before his death in 1989.

  • He renounced his divinity "at gunpoint". The tradition of imperial household existance was in danger, so he acted responsible. On the other hand renouncing divinity by the words or on the paper does not affect his divinity at all. In my oppinion that was an act of cultural/religious genocide and vandalism executed by yankees. This remainds me an old saying: "Vae victis".

  • great sadness....

  • Long live the His Celestial Highness, the Emperor!
