Prof. Ellen Marrus presented on whether or not the promise of the Supreme Court case In re Gault, which purported to confer the right to timely notification of charges, the right to confront witnesses, the right against self-incrimination, and the right to counsel to juveniles, has been realized in the subsequent 40 years.

In re Gault is a landmark case decided by the United States Supreme Court in 1967, recognizing and redressing the need for children to be afforded due process protections in juvenile court.
