This is a pretty amazing mago made and painted by Don Weluk, a well-known Arnhem Land artist and musician. He has a knack for crafting didgeridoos and is a brother to another 'bamboo man' George Nawutpu, and uncle to previous artist-in-residence Daphne Banyawarra.

This mago is huge, with a bell size of 12-13 cm diameter. Back pressure is understandably high and there's also heaps of power owing to the conical-shaped bore, natural throughout.

An outstanding musical instrument of rustic construction and ochre-painted throughout.

Played here by Darryl Digarrnga Brown of White Cockatoo fame.
