American Freestyle canoeing is the art of paddling a canoe on flat water with perfect control of its movements. The canoe is usually leaned over to the side to help the boat turn sharply and efficiently and paddle strokes are taken on either side of the canoe depending on the individual move. Balance, paddle placement and turn initiation are a few keys to this control. Since the movements seem dance-like, some practice this art timed to music, which is the ultimate in control.

For a fleeting moment, I felt as if my mind left my body and began flying over the land. It was as if I was flying for hours, the wind in my face and hair as I look down to see lush, green pastures. The cool, crisp mountain air floods into my lungs as I ascend and descend over the majestic giants.
Then my mind returned to my body in Florida, where I sit and sweat even in air-conditioning. I will tell tales of the Freestyle Canoeing to my grandchildren.

I can see why they are world champions, for a moment I forgot it was a canoe and it became a dolphin but with wings, then the winged dolphin canoe beast wasn't flying or swimming, it was floating as if weightless and suspended in a plane between sky and water.
