Due to the war I was born in Austria so have a strong heartfelt link to Strauss & Tauber and that wonderful nostalgia of days gone by when grandeur & class dominated and my father introduced me to Tauber as the premier tenor of the 30'.

The three tenors, separately or together, cannot come close to equaling Tauber's simple and powerful rendition. It is a "Wien..." beyond opera and pop and into a category of just plain great

How can you listen to this and not cry?
Perhaps beacuse my father and his father loved Tauber and I listened to him from a child.
Winding up the gramaphone was part of it.

Absolutely wonderful singing! How can a timbre be so stuffed with personality? He just sings with a smile in the sound, and that smile can be happy or so achingly sad.
