Lauren Kennedy - "A Summer In Ohio" (from the world premiere of 'The Last 5 Years')

Lauren Kennedy performs "A Summer In Ohio" from the world premiere production of Jason Robert Brown's "The Last Five Years" in 2001 at the Northlight Theatre in Skokie, Illinois.

Kennedy performs this number in the original key - a half step higher than how the song would be published and Scott would sing it in New York. In other words, she belts some fierce E naturals in this performance. Kennedy was unable to participate in the New York run of the show as the production was delayed due to legal troubles and Kennedy was committed to start in Trevor Nunn's revival of "South Pacific." It's no wonder why Brown always performs these songs with Kennedy - this is clearly the voice he wrote them for. Brava!

Oh my goodness, she is so darling! I love the way she takes a huge bit out of the sandwich at the end. Her voice is so painfully perfect! This whole video just makes me smile so much!!

I think the way that Lauren played Cathy is SO different from the way that Sherie played her. Lauren played her very classy, level headed and womanly, while Sherie played her more synical. I am talking about in the whole of the show, I like both for different reasons. Lauren's voice is INCREDIBLE though!
