@TheAleph74 Sorry, man. The two of them are both technically lyric coloraturas. But they both have a certain punch or somewhat strident shade to their voice. And they have sung a lot of the same repertoire. "Nothing further from the truth" does not take any of these important factors into consideration. You're wrong.

@dougbalt : Similar to Sills? Nothing further than the truth. They were very different type of sopranos.

Is this coming out on dvd at all?

@yodavidnavarro Yes, she will sing them well because she has a lot of punch and fire in her voice, and she is very similar to Sills, in my humble opinion. (Disclaimer: It's OK if someone disagrees with this opinion.)

Fleming's "come bello" is quite rough; the phrasing and intonation are suspect and the legato is, frankly, bad. That tenor is semi-professional at best. It's sad how far vocal standards have declined in such a short time.

An acceptable ' Modern rendition ' of a well loved/know opera. For the real thing you should take a look at Sutherland/Kraus' version Royal Opera House London...

Yes, Elisabetta in Roberto Devereux is extremely difficult.

She once stated that R. Devereaux shortened her career. I think that she pushed her delicate voice to the limit.
But her Casta diva is lovely, I think the slower tempo showcased her great breth control!

Well, unlike Devia/Gruberova, Sills actually attempted to use chest voice, and her best results are in her studio Anna Bolena, her Maria Stuarda is also outstanding. Her Norma not so much, except for Casta Diva/Ah bello a me ritorna. But also putting so much weight on the low register on a light-lirical voice is what shortened its life.
I just love this opera and I've seen so many great interpretations on youtube. Caballe, Sutherland, Devia, and Fleming also. She's a fine Lucrezia. I won't be in DC so this video is much appreciated!
