Single-Cell Phenotyping for Understanding Microbial Function presented by Mary Lidstrom, University of Washington Vice Provost for Research. Dr. Lidstrom describes an approach that couples a microbial community function-based live cell presorting step to single-cell analysis at both the physiological and genetic levels. The test case involves C1 cycling in Lake Washington, a site where a variety of culture-dependent and culture-independent analyses of the communities involved in C1 cycling have been done.

Presented at the October 9, 2009 symposium Microbial Communities: Stewards of the Universe.
