The Dave Clark Five are my second favorite rock group, and this is one of their best songs. This is the original 45 RPM single version of Please Tell Me Why from 1966. It was written by the DC5's lead singer and keyboardist, the late Mike Smith. It peaked at #28 on the charts. It was the group's last US top 40 hit to be written by one of the band members. Smith died of pneumonia in February 2008 and the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame the following month.

  • I always liked this one too. Kind of reminded me of a drinking song. These guys made so many great ones, including many that were just middling hits like this.

  • I agree it's too short (from this I clock it at 1:30), but it's great while it lasts!

  • I always liked this song, but always felt that it was too short, with a very abrupt ending. I think what convinced me to pay money for the single was the fact that Look Before You Leap was on the flipside. I thought it was a slightly better song and the two made the single worth the money.

  • automatic arm on the table?...Gangster!

  • happy birthday mike smith

  • A fave of mine but unfortunately a stiff for the boys in 66. I rfemember buying the 45 and all my friends thought I was nuts..but they knew I loved the DC5!
