Silent Light tells the story of Johan, a married man who against the laws of his faith and traditional beliefs, falls in love with another woman, thus facing an internal dilemma, whether to betray his wife, the woman he once loved and disrupt the apparent stability of the community or sacrifice his true love and future happiness.

Sublimely shot, entirely on location in the Mexican Mennonite community near Chihuahua, Silent Light opens with what is arguably the single most remarkable shot of the year; dawn breaking over the rural landscape, Reygadas′s control of image and sound reconfirm his position as one of cinema′s most distinctive auteurs. - www.palisadestartan.com

  • how much one knows about one's own culture... i grew up in austria, have lived in germany, am aware of severe dialects and things like swiss-german but this... i've never heard about this before, even though there appear to be about as may people speaking it as live in austria...

  • @metalmosh6 Actually, the Mennonites arrived in Chihuahua from Canada in the early 1920s and by then the "norteño" and "banda" music was already in full swing in Mexico because this type of music, along with beer, were brought by Bavarian and Bohemian immigrants in the mid 1800s. There is more to Mexico's European side than most people think.

  • @SagradaMascarita Dark Mexicans are mixed as well, be it african, asian, or european, theres hardly pure Natives now. Look up Chipilo, Mexico on youtube, it was formed by Venet/Italos and they speak Venetian/Mexican spanish dialect. There's also Altos de Jalisco which resonates European influence strongly. For kicks this Mexican group demonstrate German/Austrian influence in Mexican music just look up "The Clap" by Nortec Collective.

  • @metalmosh6 ye cuz here in california the only mexicans i know are either brown, light brown, or white complected but not white :(

  • @SagradaMascarita I know this might be excessive but I can't stress how vital Mennonites were to Mexico and Texas. These communities gave Northern Mexico the identity we all know; Ranches, Accordions, and German-originated Mexican beer(see Wilhelm Hasse founder of 'Dos Equis XX')

  • @SagradaMascarita There's is 12 to 17 million white Mexicans(in Mexico), not including pockets of white Mexican Americans. Despite the one's you see at Home Depot, the EuroMex are often wealthy and needn't migrate thus why it causes confusion for Americans when they meet someone like my mother who is German Mexican. Mexico has one of the biggest Mennonite populations in the America's(They brought German beer and the Accordion Tex-Mex Polka that bugs the bajeezus outa everyone, u kno the kind)

  • so the movie take place in mexico? weird

  • is this movie any gd? im thinking of watching it

  • This movie is so emotionally powerful, even without a music score.

  • Finally a movie made in my language! This is awesome
