Oscar Pistorius Sets WR Paralympics 2012 - Kills Girlfriend 2013

LONDON: South Africa's Oscar Pistorius smashed the 200 metres T44 world record in his heat as he made his London 2012 Paralympics debut last night.

Pistorius ran 21.30, shaving more than half a second off the previous record set by Brazilian Alan Fonteles Cardoso Oliveira in an earlier heat.

The 25-year-old, who is dubbed the 'Blade Runner', is defending the 100m, 200m and 400m Olympic titles he won in Beijing four years ago.

South African paralympic star Oscar Pistorius is being questioned by South African police for shooting dead his girlfriend at his home in Pretoria, domestic media said on Thursday.

Johannesburg's Talk Radio 702 said Pistorius was understood to have shot his girlfriend in the head and arm, although the circumstances surrounding the incident were unclear. He may have mistaken her for a burglar, the radio report said.

A police spokeswoman told Reuters that a woman had been found dead at the house but declined to give any more details.

Pistorius, who races wearing carbon fibre prosthetic blades after he was born without a fibula in both legs, was the first double amputee to run in the Olympics and reached the 400 semi-finals in London 2012.

South Africa has some of the world's highest rates of violent crime and some home-owners carry weapons to defend themselves against intruders.

I must have missed something. Was there a guilty verdict I didn't know about? I didn't know he killed his girlfriend. I did know he was charged with killing her; however, that doesn't necessarily mean it happened.

I can't believe this. He shot her while she was in the bathroom... He knew what he was doing. HANG HIM IN THE STREETS. WHERE THE HELL IS THE JUSTICE!!!!

That's not true. Sorry. The prosecutor sees absconding. Any other "normal" citizens would sit still. Especially when the burden of proof. That is a fact. But the question is: how many shots he wants to explain? And that he can not. I find favor in this case, to throw up. That should have made another. I would like to hear the cries then.

Actually after today's bail hearing, it looks likely he will be granted bail in 1-2 days time (this is extremely unusual in cases of premeditated murder). Because the prosecution and especially the police was severely ripped to pieces by Oscar's defence team today.

He has not been convicted of any crime, therefore he is innocent (for now).

There is no evidence of any "domestic violence" in this case so let's avoid speculation like this until the full trial is over.
