True. People tend to forget about Mae geri kekomi, don't know why. I'd rather use kekomi in a fight then a keage.

To me mae geri is one of the most underrated kicks in karate.. It is so effective and devastating if you ar able to execute it fast.

no I think this is a keage. Both keage and kekomi thrust forward. This is just an exaggeration of keage. Kekomi is a completely different kick. I have a video on my channel that explains this further, Many thanks

Example: I taught my son to use mae geri keage to stop hit Mauy Thai style low round house kicks. It works perfectly. Why punish ur shins to stop a dumb ass from low kicking u when u can just snap kick him inside the thigh or pelvis b4 he can even get the kick off? It's a thing of beauty! The guy gets caught mid-stroke & totally loses balance. This leaves him wide open and defenseless so u can close the distance and hit him hard without having to trade blows w/ him!

Just becuz a technique is not as powerful doesn't mean it's not effective in a real fight. U need to re-think ur position. Power techniques are not easy to deliver accurately when u have an actively resisting opponent. Snap techniques may lack power, but they're not meant 4 KOs unless delivered in sore spots. Snap kicks are used to distract the attacker so that u can close the distance w/o getting hit! Then u deliver the power while his concentration is compromised.

U must be thinking of mae geri kakato (heel). Kekomi means (to thrust).

Mae geri kekomi is a completely different kick. Mae geri kekomi is with the heel and the foot is in front of the knee joint before release. The knee drives upwards and tight to the body .

Keage sucks unless you're kicking to the groin.
