Bronze Soldier - Relocated TV 3 News 30.04.2007 1/2

Bronze soldier monument relocated to Filtri tee 14 to military cemetery, three days after the monument's removal from the capital provoked rioting by ethnic Russians.

Russian woman Aleksandra says that her heart is in peace now and it is nice place and riots will calm down. She says that meetings and peaceful gatherings are OK, but vandalism and rioting is not good and she does not like it at all. She was amazed that the monument is still in one piece and was put up, she said she heard from Russian media that it was sawn into pieces. She calls everyone to stay calm.

Russian man Pavel speaking says that it is too far from city and placed there specially because it is excellent place for vandalists to ruin the statue. He says that at night hooligans can come easily. He does not think Estonians are vandalists, he says vandals have no nationality. He says it is somewhat better to live in Estonia than Russia, but some hidden discrimination still exists.

Official opening ceremony will be held on 8th May. Wall behind the monument will be reconstructed within one month.

Nations, who weren't for almost 50 years under the Russians power, don't understand that this was in reality brutal occupation. So why this monument, which is commemorating crimes of Russians, should still be even standing? (and Estonians only want to move it to the cementary !!)

The general population was up in arms over the annual tradition of flowering the monument. Dressed in former USSR military uniforms and parading in the general area with Russian flags, as if the Russians still think of themselves as Estonia's liberators. Pretty bold using the name liberator to an army which, after driving the Germans out, stayed on to loot, rape and commit grave crimes against Estonians.
