It would seem that most of the BNP voters and supporters were merely swayed by some guy in a BNP rosette on their doorstep, which is a sad reflection on how politically uneducated they are. I don't think that the people in this film are inherently racist, they're vulnerable and that's understandable. The BNP prey on these people.
