The Arcata cops and Humboldt Sheriffs arrest the remaining protesters in the Peoples Project homeless rights protest, April 2007. At the beginning the cops push their wooden barrier into the crowd, and it falls apart as the crowd pushes back. The arrests involve quite a few dirty tricks, painholds etc, to break the protesters resistance. At the end the cops are followed to their cars by an angry crowd chanting "shame on you!". The arrests took place on the third day of a ten day encampment to protest Arcatas' laws forbidding homeless people to sleep, a violation of a basic human right.

  • I think the title should read, "humans gone wild". What a disgrace to the human race, these hippies are.

  • These police are being VERY accomodating, and the stupid hippies just wouldn't listen to reason, they're lucky they were only subdued with submission holds, by all rights they could have just pepper sprayed the lot.

  • Okay, I lived in this area for 12 years (just moved a year ago). Humboldt County is by far the most beautiful place I've seen. What I don't miss are the panhandlers, drug addicts, and enablers. I've been cursed at for refusing beggars younger than me money, then seen the same guys drinking in public, and being obnoxious, had people sleep on my porch, try to sell me weed when I wake them up, and berate me when I tell them to go. I couldn't own a bike; it would be stolen. So yeah... Go Cops!

  • Oh, almost forgot the time my friends and I went into our back yard during the summer - our private back yard with an 8 foot fence all the way around - and disrupted a guy hiding in the little ally between the front porch and the side of the house. Scared the living hell out of us when we saw him suddenly, trying to hide back there! We weren't sure if he just wanted a place to sleep, or was casing the house, but it put us all on edge. My personal space is a NOT violation of anyone's rights!
