Sorry to tell you, but the ONLY reason why welfare was established in America, was to create a mob constituency for the social planners to garner votes and support, and to damage the middle class through taxation.
I'll do you one better; the only reason the women's "empowerment" movement came along was to get women into jobs and paying taxes, and to destroy families and make even more welfare constituents, which further damaged the middle-class.

There's definitely a solid list of terrible presidents, but Vietnam just hits so close to home today. That said, Truman was a troll, nuclear weapons what???? Time for someone with principles & sound ideas :)
