Serbian Trubaci in USA and Canada.
For those not familiar with the sound of the Serbian Trubaci, be prepared. To Western ears it sounds somewhat Middle Eastern, yet there is a familiar rhythm here and there, a familiar tune. Something sounds right but awry...are they in tune? Can a trumpet sound like that?
Yes to both questions. A typical trubaci orchestra is often comprised of local village musicians, who get together at the end of the day and want nothing more than to play into their horns. As such, they are often by no means professional, with no "formal" education. Their music is raw, built upon centuries of living under the influence of the West through the Austro-Hungarian Empire and of the East under the Ottomans. Over the course of generations, a new music arose, a music that fused the Orient with the Occident.
We are the Trubaci of the desert and play to the ears of those enflamed by the burning sun.
We are the Trubaci of the Diaspora and play to the hearts of those longing for their homeland.
We are the Firebrass Trubaci.
