Aww the 2-33, the most graceful ugly brick in the skies

Hey John, do you find it challenging to stay up in the 1-26? I am considering one for my first glider, I love the history of the 1-26, but at 190llbs (without chute) I am thinking maybe a 1-34 would be a better choice if I can find one and continue to save my pennies. My concern is that in the winter the wind really picks up and this could mean a lot of down wind landouts or very short flights in the 1-26.

I remember George Powel's name. I'm afraid that my bird has been sidelined while I do the kid thing for a while. Hopefully we'll get her back in the air in a couple of years. I've got about 300 hrs in the 1-26. They are easy to fly, but difficult to fly well. You need to get your hands on a film called "Dawn Flight" It's a short film that was made back in 1975 or so. It's available through Pyramid Media. Has some awesome footage of 1-26's.
Wow, I was racing down there at Immokalee race track just under you! I am a beginning glider pilot myself, taking lessons at Seminole Lake Glider Port in Clermont, FL. Several times I found myself sitting in the pits working on my bike looking up at the gliders and thinking "What am I doing?! I could be soaring right now!" ... so I stopped racing and decided to spend more time in flying lessons :) Thanks for that guys. Someday I hope to come down and fly with you.

Yo Helipilot!
Look us up next time you're in Immokalee. We'll take you up in our Blanik L-13. Say Hi Gnut and the gang at Seminole. Great people. A few of our group have been there to take the practical. I went there with friends just to fly around.
You can find us at SAA website. We're the Everglades Soaring Club. See ya, John F
