This is a weak copy of a much older Irish rebel poem.
Even the background music, The minstrel boy is a Irish rebel tune.
What idiot put these together.

Changed his tune somewhat after losing his only son in the great war

Working class Catholics and Protestants in the North were both screwed over by the British and Ulster ascendancy (the ascendancy includes but a small minority of wealthy Protestants). Violence was perpetuated for generations because they convinced working class protestants that they had something to lose when in fact they were both equally exploited. That's the great shame of Irish history. We could have achieved so much together if all of working class Ireland stood shoulder to shoulder.

Perhaps when religion is finally out of Irish politics, then the Irish people can feel
free to walk towards the future arm in arm for the greater good.
Kipling's point of view was of his age and outlook as a child of Empire who had
been born and brought up far beyond England's shores and was to lose his only
son in the Great War that followed these lines.
Another thought-provoking contribution from this excellent source.

@mrmagicroundcircle I'm not sure losing his son in Flanders fields changed his views on Ulster unionism
