Thing is, the pun does not work in French. The phrase "sur Mars," in French, can only be translated to "on Mars" or "above Mars." It cannot be swapped with March, in any way.
Maybe it was intended to be a pun but, if so, it's a poorly executed one.
actually i think that's a joke... because in french, March means Mars... so.. "once upon a time in mars" would means like.. Once Upon a Time in MARCH.... but.. since the planet Mars and the month March(Mars) are two identical words in french.. this is funny only if you say the french word for the month, which is MARS... I think that's what he wanted to do... I'm not sure though...
