Tourism minister Najib Balala has turned the heat on tour operators for apparently painting the country in bad light following government security lapses that led to two kidnaps last month. Balala charged that operators based in the lamu island had created artificial panic at the expense of the country's larger tourism industry. Major source destinations including the united states, britain and france have already issued cautionary notices to their citizens intending to visit lamu and kenya in general but the minister said that the government had developed a marshall plan to ensure that security was enforced and confidence restored in the country.
