Sure. Substitute "they" with MES in your para' and it makes sense (ish).
As with the hypocite hippies, most punks sold out ( bought the enjoy ticket ).
You have to be the real deal not to - creatives don't have a choice, they don't have to try to be different, they're 'born strange'. ( there's a song title there somewhere).

@LondonDada But why oh why? I refer you to Lacan's society of enjoyment. The exploitation of the commandment to enjoy creates full conformity, via the exploitation of our capacity to rebel in its purely imaginary form. Punk was the very apotheosis of the enjoy / rebel aesthetic. Which is why The Fall remain important and transcendent. They are difficult, awkward, hard to comprehend. Yet, there's something beneath that postmodern interpretation. They will not be dismissed.

Taking a Stance - making a differ-ance. Fewer and fewer have the guts for it nowadays.

Great post thanks!

Genius - a life code....

Arguably their best epic, the instrumental part at the end is just brilliant.

I FU**ING HATE Cromwell.
I would have been front and center for the Royalist forces.
But Mark E. Smith makes me want to lay down my pike and march with the New Puritans...

Superb, love the way it builds into a classic Smith rant, one of my favourite lyrics of his (along with Tempo House, How I Wrote Elastic Man....)
