Finger Talkin' by Rik Emmett of Triumph
Progressions of Power album

I scored this transcription by ear when I was going to college and slowing down LP's to 16 speed. Just my little interpretation of his 70's classical / jazz acoustic solo. A real work out: Rick is a world class player. I even added some strings at the coda (complements of Omnisphere) I used a Ramirez classical. For video, just an iMac video cam. The original recording Rick made was on a steel string acoustic--or probably a semi-acoustic electric. The only steel string I have is an ovation and it's no good for miking in a studio so I used my classical guitar instead.

  • Most excellent amigo! We used to crank this to 11, drunk on underage beer in the actual day (1980), and you do high Justice to a GREAT instrumental! I for one, welcome our finger talkin' overlords! Brilliant!!!

  • @chiefbigwig1

    Thanks for watching and for your colourful commentary :}

  • I am definitely not playing with a backing track. I just sewed two takes together because purely I liked the feel of the 2nd take ending so much better.

  • I figured out my first Rik Emmet solo piece (Fantasy Serenade) 30 years ago when I was 15 and then moved on to Clap by Steve Howe. I tried this one but alas it was beyond my abilities. You are an incredible guitarist! Awesome job!!

  • @depedro99

    Thanks for watching!

  • Just OK. (kidding) I mean that was just sensational, As great as I could even imagine it played. Great performance!

  • @9pixals

  • Great,just great-

    I am in awe!!!

  • @TheBdriver This is true. It did take me a little while. I figured it out in parts and then put them together over time. I'll be uploading my version along with other Steve Howe, RIk Emmet and other classical works soon. Hope you see them.

  • wow! Very nicely done!! any idea where to get the tab for that ??! lol

  • @depedro99 and the Clap wasn't beyond your abilities ? lol Thats no easy walk either lol

  • Fabulous job! Just hearing that makes me want to see Rik Emmett again on one of his solo gigs. I trust someone as talented as you truly know how great a player Rik is?

  • Why the edit at 1:44 and are you playing with a backing track after that point?

  • @Tacomadome24 Yeah, - go figure! This was when I was 16 and it took me a while to get down clap but for some reason I couldn't get my head (or fingers) around certain parts of this one. I've improved quite a bit since then so I think I should give it a try again. But of course there's a big difference between playing a difficult piece and figuring it out by ear. At least I don't have to do it by tape anymore. I'm going to be uploading my own vids of my favorite solo pieces soon including Clap.
