Formal Torah study begins in third grade at Columbus Jewish Day School CJDS. While students study Torah stories in earlier grades, in the third grade they begin to study from the text itself. For this reason we customarily mark this special time with a ceremony that celebrates both Torah study and the passing on of Torah from one generation to the next. During the Tekes Dor L'Dor or Humash Ceremony (November 3, 2011), 4th Grade students, who got their Humash the previous year, sent a tribute to their friends in 3rd grade: the song Veshinantam Levanekha, ושננתם לבניך. Words are taken from the Shema - V'ahavta, Devarim 6:7. ושננתם לבניך ודברת בם בשבתך בביתך ובלכתך בדרך ובשכבך ובקומך . "Impress them upon your children. Recite them when you stay at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you get up". The clip was taken in one of the rehearsals for the ceremony. The students worked under the direction of Deb Weber, Joanie Calem and Eran Rosenberg.
