First paved in the 1920's, US 61 is one of Minnesota's first and most famous highways. We'll be starting in Red Wing and continue south down to Frontenac Station.

  • Very scenic. It looks so American to me, with the quintessential Midwestern town at the beginning and everything.

Also, I was going to make a comment about the condition of the road, but seeing as it was paved in the '20s I think it's pretty good for such an old highway.

  • @AlvinHDavernport

Haha, it'd be okay to make that comment. The original pavement was only 12 foot wide concrete slabs. At the 2 min mark you can see the original road on the left.

  • Awesome vid!!

Is a nice route to go quiet and enjoying the journey with the car.

    Minnesota is a beautiful state.

  • @CAMINOANDALUZ

Thanks Josan. The entire length of 61 is perfect for just that.

  • @Bradhahn14 I live in red wing and it is a beautiful area to live in

  • @eluko79 go to the cemetary. Its one of the most haunted in the US

  • I've never been down to Red Wing. Looks like a very beautiful area, overlooked by bluffs.

  • @AaronOfMpls

I drove through there once on a whim. Very eerie little village.

  • @AaronOfMpls Also, if you're into old buildings, I recommend the turnoff for Old Frontenac (from Frontenac Station). Founded in the 1850s, Old Frontenac is probably Minnesota's first resort community.

  • I drove down to Winona that way last fall. Very beautiful drive.

  • Now you'll have to do another video along Wisconsin Highway 35 on the east side of the river.

  • i cant get this vid to work, it always says error

  • Another great vid! Look forward to the next.

  • Cool video. Nice change-of-pace.

  • @CptSchmidt

Oh I know. It should have been a freeway 50 years ago. WW2 put a stop on the plans.

Anyways I use a "flip mino HD" with a suction cup mount on the windshield.

    Thanks!

  • Very scenic. Great video.

  • Excellent!!

  • Very nice piece of highway. Must be frustrating when behind people who drive slowly...

What kind of camera do you use?

  • Beautiful old highway.

Korea in the 1920s probably would not have a paved roads.

  • scenic

    thanks
