Catch shares were an ideal in question here in NC. DMF wanted to adopt catch shares for the Striped Bass fishery, What good is a catch share fishery for a migratory fish present for only a month or so out of the year ? Catch shares you can only own up to 1% of the quota so i have heard, well, divide catch shares up for hundreds of boats, what kind of allotment do you get ? LITTLE ? Derby style, your knowledge and experience determines your catch, which is the way it should be !

what a crock of shit. It's great if your in the winners circle,but this will make over 60% of the fleet unable to make a living!I wonder if these fishermen have looked at EDF's website which is telling people not to buy trawler caught fish.These draggermen should take a closer look at EDF's website and stop being such traitors.This is nothing more than a commodities grab.Any fisherman that is connected to EDF is a sellout,plain and simple!There just sucking up to big money and selling out.

These people are sellouts to our industry. They can not look you in the eye because they are stealing a public resource at the expense of their brother fishermen.

There is not one good reason to change to catch shares. EDF wants control of a fish commodity on Wall Street. They don't care about resources, fishermen or communities. It's all about the money.

Mary beth, You said it yourself, look what happened to Alaska. There were over 280 working crab boats before Sectors, now there are appx 80left. Consolidation of the fleet. To boot only cerain processors gained the rights to distribute that crab. YOU PEOPLE ARE A BUCH OF EDF SELLOUTS AND NOT A TRUE AMERICAN. YOU DO NOT REPRESENT ANY MAJORITY OF THIS INDUSTRY. What this video does not tell you is that most of these fishermen are heavily funded by EDF. They are paid to cite EDF's agenda. Most fishermen are strongly against Sectors and refuse to sign up. NMFS has extended the deadline again(3rd time) This regulation will conslolidate SNE Fish Sleet up to 75%. 75% of small businesses gone. EDF and PEW have bought their way into Congress and Senate and their agenda is to sell to Wall Street. Privatize America's last PubliceResource. Greed at itsbest
