Have a green screen or blue screen?
Want to fool your audience with a killer effect?
Do you dream of being miles and miles away from home to relax?

Well this video tutorial is for you. Today I show you how to use the chroma key feature in Adobe Premiere CS3.

  • hi, trying to remove green screen - there is a shadow behind the person - wrong lights - now the edges are very fuzzy - any way to fix this?

  • @jaydeehermanus You could try layering the chroma key effect to apply it to different shades on the green screen but generally, keying out shadows is just about impossible. Even the higher end programs such as After Effects and the very expensive Primatte Keyer plugin have trouble keying things like this out.

The best way to do green screen it to shoot from a good lit screen from the start. Keep about 3-5 feet away from the screen and light it evenly.

  • do you have to buy adobe?

    or can you download it?

  • @xdreeaam Adobe is the company, Premiere is the software.

Adobe allows a 30 day trial download with some limitations however in the end you have to buy it. It should run around $800 for the new CS5 version. They offer digital online download or actual mailed out DVD when you buy this product.

A lower cost solution is Adobe Premiere Elements at $60 or one of the Sony Movie Studio series of editing software which run anywhere from $45 to $120.

  • Thanks for the lesson! questions tho... When adjusting the Garbage matte, Why not Bring it up all the way to the "Limit of motion"? meaning your subject may gesture with his arms a couple of inches and therfore need that space as a buffer so you dont cut off any motion. with a static subject (not a lot of movement) such as this interview clip why is it important to have sooo much green in the back? dont you just need enough to remove you subject from the footage? just a question :) Thanks again

  • @DJRockinRob You could bring the matte in more to cut out more of the set but I personally have always just moved it in enough to just cover up the green screen just a touch. There is no right or wrong with editing....pick effects and apply them the way you need them to work.
