Sharon puts her leek seedlings in our garden bed mid-May. She started them at home from seeds in February and they won't be harvested until next year. One of the important things new gardeners learn about growing food is that it takes a long time to "make" our food, the timing is much different from "picking something up" at the store after work. Let's put this under the title "Slow Food". City Farmer

  • When you say they've grown through the winter, what temperatures are we talking about? I live in Ohio, and have just planted some leeks (early October) after preparing my end of the summer garden.

  • Vancouver, BC winters similar to Seattle. Mild, Pacific Northwest temperatures. Check weather maps.
