Who Am I To Say? - Severus/Hermione

Hermione's had a crush on Snape since her first day and even though she is now in 7th year, those feelings have never gone away.

So, needless to say, when Snape one day leaves without a goodbye, Hermione is crushed. Having believed he at least cared for her a little, Hermione questions her significance to him, thinking over her past with him.

Snape soon returns to Hogwarts, but seems uninterested when Hermione comes to welcome him back. However, when she shows off her dress for the Leaver's Ball, he smiles at her.

Trying to get closer to him, Hermione has as much luck as she did when she was younger, finding the potion's master to be very closed towards her.

Then one day as she is walking, mumbling to herself, unaware that Snape is behind her. When she states that someone like him would never love her, he stops dead in his tracks and Hermione finally notices him. He makes an excuse and leaves, watched by an embarassed Hermione.

Then at the Leaver's Ball, Hermione can only think of Snape who is watching her entrance from across the room. As she is led into the Great Hall, she gives Snape a small wave which he responds to (to her suprise) with a smile.

Hermione then comes to accept that Snape will never love her and their paths must go seperate ways as the Second Wizarding War looms. However, it is now that Snape starts to take a new interest in her, could it change things now forever?

@thatgirlCarissa Because they are perfectly matched for each other. Snape is a person who needs love, and Hermione is a person with a big heart. He is also one of the only people who is her intellectual equal. Dont get me wrong, I like Ron and all, but Hermione would go insane if she ever really married him. Can you imagine having to explain EVERYTHING to your spouse? Plus, H & S have much more in common due to their academia. Lessons, the war, and Harry do NOT count as similarities.

I think in the actual series, Hermione and Ron work because Ron makes her laugh and smile, plus he's cared for her for years. True, he gets on her nerves sometimes, but she still loves him. She would have to explain tons of things to him, but I think she likes showing off her knowledge. They also have a strong bond as friends. Sev just couldn't be the man that she needs in her life. His personality isn't compatible with hers. He's not open to love, which is what she's looking for.

@BakaPyros I completely agree with everything you said. Those are great arguments for shipping Severus/Hermione (I absolutely love the HG/SS pairing). It's unfortunate that it would never work out in the real world of HP, though. He was 100% dedicated to Lily ('Always') and she ends up with Ron. Lessons, war, and Harry do count as similarities, they're just not very good ones to support a relationship.
